Sounds of the Nine Realms, by Alex Friedman and Charles Comstock, was an interactive installation set up just within the opening corridor of Artica 2024, Picnic Under the World Tree. It was the second collaborative installation at Artica for Comstock, though he’s attended the fest for over a decade, giving him a unique, dual-perspective view of the event.

As there were audio components involved, we thought it best to include this particular interview in audio form. What was interesting — and, at times, a bit challenging — for audio creators at the new site of Artica in 2024, was the fact that sound elements were bleeding into one another. In the case of this conversation, a guitarist had set up nearby, though other sound pirates would set up shop near Friedman and Comstock’s piece over the weekend, including an impromptu DJ set on Sunday. Add in trains and a nearby highway and… things were sonically dense, let’s say.
That said, their addition to the festival grounds offered another intriguing layer of sight-and-sound to the affair and we thank him for the short-yet-meaningful (and a li’l bit noisy) chat. Enjoy.
